Two-Part Carbonless Paper (Duplicate Copies)
A two-part carbonless paper set consists of two sheets:
- Original Sheet: This is the top sheet that you write or print on. It has a reverse side coated with micro-encapsulated dye that will transfer to the next sheet when pressure is applied.
- Duplicate Sheet: This is the bottom sheet with a coating on its top surface that reacts with the dye from the original sheet to create a copy. The coating is a clay-like material impregnated with a color developer.
Three-Part Carbonless Paper (Triplicate Copies)
A three-part carbonless paper set includes three sheets:
- Original Sheet: Similar to the two-part system, this sheet has a reverse side coated with micro-encapsulated dye.
- First Duplicate Sheet: The top side of this sheet is coated with the color developer, which reacts with the dye from the original sheet to create the first copy.
- Second Duplicate Sheet: Positioned below the first duplicate sheet, it has a similar coating to react with the dye from the first duplicate sheet, thus creating a second copy.
How it Works:
When you write or print on the original sheet, the pressure from the pen, stylus, or printer causes the microcapsules containing the dye to rupture. The dye then contacts the developer coating on the duplicate sheets, initiating a chemical reaction that results in a visible mark, creating one or two copies depending on the number of sheets in the set.
